Search Begins For Tennessee's Historic Performing Arts Buildings
11.11.2008NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Arts Commission is beginning the research phase of an architectural survey to identify Tennessee's historic performance structures to document this important part of our state's cultural history.
For consideration, submissions should meet the following criteria: still be standing, constructed prior to 1970, and have a history of use as a performing arts space. Movie theaters that have been converted to performing multi-arts uses are eligible, but movie houses built for film screenings and used solely for that purpose throughout the building's history are not eligible.
Please send the information to project researcher F. Lynn Bachleda by e-mailing bachleda@bellsouth.net or mail to 7473 Harrow Dr. Nashville,TN 37221 no later than Dec.15, 2008. E-mail contact is preferred, but not required. Please include: name and address of building, date it was built, architect (if known), a brief history (one or two paragraphs), contact person, and images if available.
