
PBS to Air New "Song of the Mountains" Shows
11.08.2006Song of the Mountains and Blue Ridge Public TV have announced the airing of new episodes of their award-winning PBS series.
The initial airing of the new episodes will be on Blue Ridge Public TV on Thursday evenings at 10:00 pm. In a few weeks they will be offered to all 190 PBS affiliates across the United States. Song of the Mountains is currently airing on 26 PBS affiliates across America and is expected to be picked up by more stations in 2007.
Song of the Mountains is taped before a live audience at the beautiful Lincoln Theatre in Marion, VA. The show features music that was born in the Southern Appalachian region and includes bluegrass, old time, gospel, Celtic, classic country and Americana music. The Lincoln Theatre seats 500 people and is an intimate setting for the TV tapings. The shows are taped with 4 cameras and are produced by Blue Ridge Public TV. Over 60 different groups and individuals have appeared on Song of the Mountains since the first show was taped in June of 2005. "Song of the Mountains presents a show the first Saturday of every month," says Tim White, executive coordinator of the show. "This year our tapings were done June through October and of these tapings we expect to have 12 new shows for our 2006-2007 broadcast season."
White says, "We are currently working to secure funding for next year and plan to continue our Song of the Mountains tapings into the future. Our shows on PBS provide and excellent vehicle to take our region's music to the entire nation. It is very exciting and fulfilling to be working with such a professional group of people!"
All Song of the Mountains concerts are open to the public and tickets are only $10 general admission.
