
Call for Entries: Johnson City Art Show
02.17.2006JOHNSON CITY, TN — Applications are now being accepted for the 28th annual Johnson City Area Arts Council Art Show, to be held from April 27-June 9, 2006 at the Carroll Reece Museum on the campus of East Tennessee State University.
Entry forms, fees and slides may be hand-delivered to the Arts Council office or postmarked by Friday, Feb. 17. The entry fee is $35 for up to three entries. Complete guidelines for entry are listed on the application form which may be downloaded from the Arts Council's website: CLICK HERE
The Art Show has grown into one of the premier art competitions in the South and includes artists from across the state of Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Western North Carolina.
Artists must be residents of Tennessee or live within a 200-mile radius of Johnson City. All work must be original and completed after May 2005. Paintings, drawings, prints, photography, mixed media and sculpture (no crafts) are accepted.
This year's juror is Melissa Harshman, who teaches printmaking at Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. She received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992 and has exhibited widely throughout the U.S. and abroad. A painter and printmaker herself, she is treasurer for the Southern Graphics Council, the largest printmaking organization in the nation.
Harshman will present an art talk for the general public on April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Johnson City Public Library. The exhibition will open at the Reece Museum on April 27. Cash awards will be given. Last year's First Award recipient, Perry Johnson of Erwin, Tenn., will exhibit his recent works at the Centre at Millennium Park in Johnson City beginning April 27.
